This page shows pictures of the Sidecar Rigs we have owned since 1975.  We also enjoy our Solos but Hack's are our preferred method of touring.

1974 BMW with Russian URAL Sidecar

This was our first Sidecar Rig, we used it like a pick-up truck (getting our Xmas tree here).  It was very ill handling,  I actually ran off the road a couple of times because of severe wobbles.  We bought the bike new and put about 20K miles on it before putting the sidecar on it, sold the rig at only 46K.

1967 R/75/2 BMW 1952 Steib S-500 Sidecar

This was our first conversion rig, we ran it from 1977 to 1985 and put 160K on it with very little trouble.  Had a 1973 R/75/5 drive train for additional power and disk brakes to stop it.  This was an excellent handling rig, and we traveled all of the western states and Canada with it (Great Rig).

1966 R/90/2 BMW 1956 Steib S-501 Sidecar

We built this conversion from parts in 1980-81 especially for Kathy.  The rig fits her stature very well but is a little to cramped for me.  Kathy has put 110K on this rig so far, we lost two rear ends and did  a top end low lead valve job and rings at 90K.  This ones a "keeper" besides Kathy won't sell it.

"Klassy Kathy's" Rig    (MY-HACK)

The heart of any BMW conversion is of course the bigger /5/6 or  /7 engine, 5 speed tranny, better braking, etc.   (Hot Rod HACK) ?

Our two BMW-Steib "Conversion Rigs"

From 1981-85 we ran two BMW-Steib Sidecar Rigs because we took our son "Jim" in one sidecar and our gear in the other.  After we crashed into one another in 1985 I decided to just fix one Rig up.  The older Rig (a 1967 with 1973 R75 engine & tranny) had a 160K on it and was getting tired anyway, so we sold the Sidecar and Bike to two different people.

Our first Trailer Rig (on the 66 Conversion)

After selling our first conversion rig, we discovered that we really needed more room to pack our camping gear, so we got the little Motorvation Back-Pack Trailer (75 lbs, no suspension).  Bounces a bit but works OK.  We still run this setup occasionally, but prefer the K-100-EML rig  we got in 1996.

1985 K-100 with EML Sport Sidecar

This is our current touring rig with KWIK-Kamp tent trailer.  We have only put 20K on this rig so far but we are very pleased with it.  The rig has plenty of power, hauls everything we need and with the car tires all the way around were not replacing tires all the time.  We plan on giving this rig a workout !
